China filed a whopping 1.54 million patents in 2018, nearly half of the rest of the world

WIPO short for World Intellectual Property Organisation is one of the world’s largest consortium for filing and granting patents. According to a report originating from the organisation, in the year 2018, China’s application for patents reached a record 1.54 million — this number is nearly half of all the patent applications filed worldwide. Unsurprisingly, a larger share of these Chinese applications was in the field of telecommunications and computer technology.

In comparison to 2017, China’s share has increased by 11.6% which is greatly influenced by the factor of seeking patent protection from other corporations within the country. The country that comes in at number two for the most number of patents filed in 2018 is the United States. Innovators and companies from the country filed close to 600,000 patents in this year which is 1.6% less compared to the preceding year.

Speaking of aggregate numbers, in 2018, innovators across the globe filed for 3.3 million patents, 14.3 million trademark applications and 1.3 million industrial applications. Noteworthy, out of these applications more than two-thirds originated from Asia.

Francis Curry who is the director of WIPO said “Asia increasingly became the global centre of international patent applications “. Moreover, he praised China and made the following statement:

China has always been a major driving force. From the number of applications from China or China, the number of applications from the China office is indeed very amazing.”

Another country that he pointed out was India saying the their “growth is amazing”.

While addressing the number of patents filed overseas in 2018, the U.S. applicants filed close to 230,000 patent applications whereas China filed 66,400 about patents.

To wrap things up, it can be said that China is no longer just the manufacturing hub of the world but innovators and corporations in the country also want to come out as the centre for developing Intellectual properties.

I see they're doing something with all of the information they've illegally obtained via hacking and industrial/commercial espionage.

Innovation is now in Asia. Yesterday China copied. Now it innovates and invents new products.

Everything is explained.
Despite the penalties imposed on Chinese students in the largest universities in the US.
they remain the most intelligent and the most able to assimilate information.
Even in the IQ tests the Chinese dominate the world

The time is in favor of China.
Soon the world's leading economic power.
What do you want... Business is business.

Of course China's average IQ is higher. They all come over here to be educated and then go back home.

So much the better that they return to their homeland to enrich their country. Soon the first world power, and no one will be able to oppose it.

To become a first world power they've got to go through modernization. Let's see how that works out for them. It'll be fun to watch.

Do not worry. For a country more than millennium, do not have lessons to receive.
China combines modernism and tradition.

Modernization is not modernism. It's something entirely different. It's beginning there and when it starts rolling there is a major clash that's going to happen politically. It'll be interesting to see if the Party can hold onto the reins and keep the people under their oppressive thumb OR if the theory holds true and we see a large-scale, democratic revolution. The general gist will be that the improving lifestyle and conditions leads to the average Chinese citizen being better off than they were before, which we're already seeing - just compare China in 1989 vs. 2019. As those improvements and progressions happen the expectations of the average person grows. At some point they exceed what can be provided by the government, especially more so with regimes such as the Chinese regime and other autocratic, totalitarian, and oppressive regimes. This will undoubtedly lead to major discontent within "the masses." That's one of two elements needed for a revolution. Yet a revolution with just "the masses" is disorganized and goes nowhere. For that you need leadership - aka the elites. The elites aren't just society's rich & fabulous but academics as well. It'll be interesting to see what this group - in general - thinks and how it acts as these conditions improve. Finally, the third element is the military. A revolution with "the masses" is a popular one but with the elites it is an organized one but without the military it gets crushed. Right now no chance anything would happen and Modernization theory has some difficulties to address BUT China may just be a textbook example of it given the industrial might of the nation, the vast population, and the changing conditions within the country. Let's see what happens in 10/20/30 years. China's going to have to cope with this eventually and right now their answer is simply "Crush it." We'll see.

In our lifetimes (within the next 30 - 50 years) we're going to see something profound happening in China. Either Modernization holds true and we see China democratize or we see what could very well be one of the bloodiest civil wars in human history with the party retaining power - but at what cost - or perhaps nothing changes and China stalls. It's going to be hard to see China revolutionize into a "first world - political tones aside because first world = democratic world" nation without major and profound changes to the society and political system.

The future of the world will come from the east.
We are already seeing the shift to the military, where despite the pharaonic budgets, the US are overwhelmed by competition on the technological front.
Soon, the failure of the Western model will become dazzling in the eyes of the world. And we'll be the last to see it.

You forget that China has observed the fall of the USSR, its unfolding.
One country two systems.
It's easy to have a critical look at this country of 1.5 billion people.
For a country as vast as it is necessary to have some authority policy.

Short parenthesis, US patents acquired through the continued brain drain from the rest of the world, otherwise this number would be much less important,
given the poor quality of their education system.
