So a Discord conversation has made me wonder if FA has an absolute altitude limit where no matter what you just can't fly that high.
I've flown aircraft up to 100,000 feet before in testing in FA but I'm wondering what's beyond that and, rather than make an aircraft that's a modified MiG-25 or an F-15, why not make an X-15 and have a little fun with it. So I already figure I'll use the F-104 as a stand-in for the shape but flight modeling wise it's going to be tricky. The X-15 obviously could go way up there, really fast, but also it could pull +7.33G! The FA F-104 is -3 / +5 so I basically have to add +2G (I'm going to cap it at +7 because that ought to be plenty vs. the +8G). Does anyone know if any LIB before modeled the X-15?

GT (Global Tribunal) Source (gt_source.zip) has an X15.PT

Looking in the pt file, the X15 flight envelope at 1g tops out at 352,000 ft.

When testing it just now, it topped out at 268,000 feet and airspeed instantly went to -44 knots and stalled.

3,600 knots is structural limit speed

Two throttle settings: 100% and afterburner; can't shut down engine though it goes through fuel quickly.

Well then very good to know. Shame really because if the airspeed didn't just drop like that it could be a fun and somewhat challenging mission.

The real deal X-15 had a throttleable rocket engine so that setup isn't to realistic

Have you tried increasing engine thrust and fixing the throttle so you can keep your speed above 268000 ft?

Also later X-15s carried huge enternal tanks for more rocket fuel...

I just checked it out for Cent; then deleted it.

I don't blame you... I would never download anything from that site.
