I've always noticed how some libs have those smoke trails on missiles that are not complete solid (they are semi-transparent/show through)

Knowing this is a possibility is this something that could be applied to canopies to make them appear as though they exist and also that they are really glass.

Note: I might be wrong about the smoke effect either way, it has been on my mind for a year just been too lazy & forgetful to post about it...

if you open the graphics proggy that you use for FA, and set the brush to a minimal opacity. Then try to paint a PIC file with that "minimal opacity" brush, you'll find that it paints solid, even though it's set for the lower opacity. I'm sure it's because of the 256 color pallatte, but I dont know how the games gets around it for the "transparent smoke" setting that we use for some of the missles. In the "Smoke" file that I've been modding, there is an extra space or 2 to the right of the black gray and white smoke pics, I assume the transparent smoke is there but moving the "eyedropper" color picker over those areas reveals no change in color from the normal "clear" background color.

I do not think it is a graphic... I think it is a hard coded segment in the game. It creates that smoke effect itself without a real graphic... The game simply writes to that blank graphic so that the areas it doesnt write to are still transparent..
