create a JATO unit for planes that could be taken put of for short runway??

Has anyone ever tried to make one?

no, but for my amphibian I gave it a HUGE afterburner number with fuel rate to match so the pilot will have to think twice about using them just anytime he wants.

Kap,

Its me CAG... Have you tried adding smoke to that heavy afterburner seeting to simulate the JATO exhaust?

Also while JATO packs may not be modellable.. the ME-163 type rocket interceptor with all or nothing thrust would be easily modelled and have that massive exhaust trail for the short time it was powered, then glide back for a landing at the airbase. You could have massive engine thrust for afterburner and ZERO for the rest of the engine regime. Thus its a all or nothing rocket. It would even modell the more avanced ME-263 with is mutli short burn burts of rocket power to maintain its energy longer...

How does that sound?

yeah I have NO idea how to add smoke to a motor, any suggestions other than faking it with a smoke pod?

Yeah, that'd also be good to have for B-52s (seeing as how they always churn out black smoke)

Jet assisted take off...they are packs added to the backs of A/C to give them a boost...RATO was first with rocket assisted...strap them to B-52s and you can get them to take off faster and with a heavier load...


B-52s armed with the Hound Dogs also powered them up on takeoff to give them extra thrust.

Guys what do you think of this. To add extra bost to the planes by adding after burners with a slight degree of trust vestoring by like 10-20 degree, as well as being V/STOL to simulate JATO? and give instruction not to use it ecept for on take off. Because it will waist a lot of fuel.

That would work just as well but the problem is that would people be using it in flight would suxor...it's how I modeled water injection (AB) but the thing was it was hard to do the consumption rates and such...you could do this but remember no smoke...

Well I added 20 for fuel consuption, so you have to be dumb to use it for too long, just for the take off and a bit of the bigging flight, to low atlitude.

Just had an interesting idea.

Make JATO the following.
Make a smoke pod that will emit black smoke and put her on like the end of the B-52 so that she belches some nasty black smoke from where the JATO would be. Now have this.

To use JATO do following:

1. Select JATO Smoke Pod (weapon) and fire it
2. Hit afterburners

HAVE the JATO last for as long as it should, like a minute or two, etc.

I dont think having player use the "JATO" is too much of a deal. I mean these are bomber and amphibians were talking about, I'm not too worried about an "advantage" player might get from using JATO in these low performance planes. Maybee the MUCH bigger problem would be the AI using the AB setting when the plane is engaged by weapons and running itself out of fuel VERY quickly. My amphibs AB fuel rate is set at 600 so human wont use it for long at all, but I need to check it out when attacked to see what AI does.
