I want to start a civil discussion on Israel and it's nuclear capability.

Now there are many articles and writings about this and it's a very interesting topic. Before the War of Attrition began it is apparent that France was aiding in their quest for nuclear weapons, as was built in the Dimona plant. Eventually the US got into it and whether or not we supplied the bomb to them specifically is probably very classified. However, I have no doubt in my mind that we did in fact give them nuclear bombs. Hell in Sum of All Fears with that A-4 flying around with the nuclear bomb you think that was far fetched? Hell no it wasn't. They probably had enough bombs at that moment to nuke the capital of every nation attacking them. They made missiles that weren't too smart to be conventional and would be great as nukes.

You can't link to files on your harddisk like that. You'd have to use Microsoft personal webserver or whatever and give a link to your IP address.

From what I've seen the US wasn't involved in the Isreali nuclear program. France gave them the reactors, and then De Gaulle wanted Israel to reveal the program so France wouldn't be involved in a arms proliferation scandal (how familiar). Isreal told De Gaulle they wouldn't make bombs (hmmm) and then reportedly did so.

If I were you Outlaw I'd be thankful that they haven't obliterate the Middle East already........

They can have nukes, they're responsible enough to handle them. Considering the fact that they never used them even when their country was attacked by arab armys.

Whereas on the other hand some madman regime like Syria, Iran, Iraq (b4 we came in, and even some terrorist group like Al Qaeda, etc. Wouldn't care about the consequences of its use. All they'd see is an atomic bomb, nothing else.......this especially applys to terrorists, cause you cant nuke them without nuking another country and taking 300,000 people for just perhaps the 100 responsible.

Israel on the other hand has no enemy that would consider nuclear retaliation against them.

We sure wouldn't strike them if they struck the Middle East, Russia and China wouldn't to avoid conflict with the U.S.

I don't even think the Soviet Union would have struck Israel (height of the cold war thingy)

And to my knowledge no Middle Eastern power has nukes except for Israel.

IMO- they could have wiped out the entire region without a nuclear response.......long ago.........

Well Iraq did have a program on nuclear weapons Da Big and if they made one it could very well be in Syria. Iran also has an active nuke program with the possibility of a few nukes 4 maybe..

Yeah that's true but I doubt the Iranians would be able to successfuly deliver them, it would take some kind of terrorist effort to pull that off, and even then they'd be destroying the supposed "Islamic holy land"

And b4 they could pull any kind of smuggling mission off- Iran would already be ablaze.......

Iraq became a non-nuclear issue after Osirak.

Had it not been for the Israelis we most likley would have faced a nuclear Saddam Hussein is DS.

Another reason why we are aligned behind them.

The US didnt have a part in the Israeli nuke production, but there are stories that Israel even had a small number of nukes before 1969. They supposedly stole Uranium from the US. However I'd have to do some research to get more info about that, but I think there has never been any proof for that story.

Yeah supposedly smuggled it from Pennsylvania but I don't know if they "smuggled" it or we just "didn't see it." LOL!

If they Used the Nuclear bomb the USA would stop supporting them... so as to be together with their own Public Opinion... Into the 60ies and 70ies.. the ppl in US where kinda Hippies (Lots of cool music at that time) so...

Supposedly Israeli commandos find an atomic bomb hooked to a SCUD missile in Iraq and then issue a deadline to the U.S.- nuke them within the hour or we will.

If they used the bomb in a scenario like this- HELL YEAH i'd still be behind them.

We owe a lot to them anyway, had it not been for their attack on that nuclear power plant we probably would have faced a Saddam Hussein with nuclear weapons in 91.
