No, The MiG-15 was an independant project that used the same data as on development, but was not a version ot Kurt Tank's work..

Pretty amazing info on the net about the MiG-15 and F-86. It is bitter sweet really the stuff we gained from the nazis and their organizations in Germany, for example medical stuff too that we gained which unfortunately wasn't being tested on mice or monkeys to say the least.

Excuse my point originally I was just basing the two on appearance and performance which are very similar of course.

"After the war, the Ta 183 story continued. The Soviets found a complete set of plans for the Ta 183 in Berlin at the RLM offices, and began construction of six prototypes in March 1946 by the MIG design bureau. On July 2, 1947, the first Soviet-built Ta 183 took to the air powered by a British Rolls-Royce "Nene" turbojet. They discovered that the original Ta 183 design needed either automatic leading edge slots or wing boundry layer fences to alleviate low-speed stalling. Also, as a compromise between high-speed and low-speed flying, the horizontal stabilizer was moved approximately one-third down from the top of the vertical tail. The modified Ta 183 first flew on December 30, 1947 and in May 1948 was ordered into production as the MIG 15. "

I can also post quotes about how the MiG-15 was directly developed from the MiG-9 STRAIGHT WING jet.. I can even provide photos.. the Ta-183 data is what did the trick, but the MiG-15 was not a full on development of Kurt Tanks work, since if it was the MiG-9 would have been swept wing from teh start instead of a dual engined internal fuselage design with straight wings. The British Nene engine made this developement redundant, but they still flew straight wing MiG-15s in development before they altered it to take swept wings...

I've been doing some research in books and I have to admit, CAG is right.

There were a lot of books and websites referring to a story in which the Russians built 6 Ta-183 prototypes, then found out about some problems, built the S01 prototype and then built the MiG-15 from it. I have read that this story is only a myth and the book I read it in was named as a false source.

OK, the MiG-15 was an independent development, it was just influenced by the Ta-183.
