Ok this completely discredits this data Kap... It is already well documented that the JSF will NOT carry the Sidewinder, only the AMRAAM...

We even had a discussion on this topic on the old board. The JSF is not a dogfight platform and is expected to only use its missile armament to kill any target that gets to close...

The JSF can carry AIM-9X on the outer wing pylon...

100lbs differance, nah dont think it discredits anything considering we still dont know what the real empty, wet, gross weights will be for this aircraft. That's only like 15 gallons of fuel, fudge factor for pilot weight would make it even closer so no probs there. These are pretty good numbers all things considered. He's stated that all the performance numbers were figured with this warload, just to give an idea of it's performance with SOMETHING loaded rather than totaly clean. Have they settled on weather any of the versions will get a gun? Last I heard AF only with a posible "per mission" option for a gun in the weapon bay for Navy. Also heard they're having "heating" problems with F-35 cause they use the fuel as a heat sink and are having some trouble in "low fuel" states thus having less fuel to cool the plane with.

BTW, just heard that the Lockheed team is smirking behind closed doors that the F-35 WILL be capable of supercruise even though the reqs dont require it. And Rolls says they have a 50,000lb thrust motor for F-35!!!

Rolls Royce? I understood that the JSF will be powered by either a GE or PW engine?

I suspect the UK will insist on some local flavor for thier version of the B model, Rolls may be stirring the pot a little too.

That is totally wrong, you can not substitute engines on the 'B' model due to the afterburner can rotation for lift and the forward ducted fan lift drive gearing off the main engine..

That engine is specificially designed for the use of the STOVL version.

Sheesh I am always battling misinformation over here!

Again, let me point out... that no where in that article is the B version of the JSF mentioned. Only the generic F-35 model..

Now the B uses a different engine their either the A or C...

But I see no where that the Rolls Royce engine is mentioned to work with the STOVL version...

the Pratt and Whitney website implies that they are ALL the same motor, just add ons to the STOVL verions to make it run the fan.

You would think that... However its only the engine's 'core' that is the same. The Rolls Royce would not have the same fittings to support the rotational afterburner and if they had indeed done such a design I personally believe they would of mentioned it!

I believe, thit if indeed RR has designed a 56K thrust engine, it would have to be developed further to be used in the B, as that aircraft has much more demands placed on the powerplact hten either the A or C...

not to menion tighter dimensions... Both GE and PW have said its impossible and RR isnt coming forward with real facts...
