And they couldn't maintain them and what good is a giant submarine if everyone knows where it is? The Trident wasn't as big but it did carry 24 missiles which were far more deadly than the Typhoon and you'd be lucky to find the SOB if you were ontop of it. I'll take that over big and useless.

Seawolf and the NSSN are the same level. Anybody remember in HFRO the catepillar drive? That wasn't some fantasy thing that Clancy made up.

Cent what you say has a valid point, the trident is far less detectable but still the damn thing (typhoon) is huge!!!!!!!!!! I am personaly impressed by the shere size of it all.

We could do just the same but the longer a submarine is and the heavier, the bigger it's propellar needs to be. The Soviets used small props and opted for multiple, which need more RPMs thus more noise. US subs use generally one prop but it's huge, thus making less RPMs and is much quieter. You know with the improved prop on the 688 it can do 40 knots and sound like it's doing probably half of that? Sucker can do 10 knots and you wouldn't know it was there, that's pretty impressive if you ask me.

US needs a USS New York class submarine. Should be massive with 50 Trident cells, and hell improve the Trident and make them Trident E-6s muahahaha. That'll send a message to the world.

Isnt the New York ship name reserved for Crusiers? There is such a proud history of that name in cruiser actions throughout modern combat from the Spanish/American War of 1898 onwards...

My personel favorite subs are the Akula class and the seawolf class. I am not a big fan of the boomers, but if I were going to chose it would be the Ohio class.

USS New York has been a ton of things including a battleship that survived WWI, WWII, the Bikini Atoll atmoic test, and was finally sunk as a target ship. The current name is reserved for the LPD-21, in the San Antonio class. Dec 2006 it will be comissioned. Awesome boats they are, mean fudgers!!! Regardless, state names are usually reserved for SSBNs but Gov. Pataki wanted the name New York to be fighting terrorism and what better than an amphibious warfare ship :) Nothing says I love you like a bunch of Marines landing at a beach that just came off a ship that is as mean as the people in it's state.

Chinese are getting pretty desperate in their quest to have an aircraft carrier. They seem to want to run before they can walk, though. The Chinese mainly want to go straight out and build a carrier that would be atleast similiar to the Kuznetsov if not try and compete with an active American class aircraft carrier. You know, with all that stuff Clinton was sending to China, suprised he didn't send the America to them :!:

Japan is also on a quest to build a couple aircraft carriers. They aren't looking for anything big, mainly a couple that would be closer to the current Wasp class. Japan is really looking to start coming out of it's shell and begin to develope a more 'offensive' military to defend itself from regional threats such as China and North Korea. If these carriers are built, they'll most likely be VSTOL, so we may have another F-35C customer.

By the way, the USS New York (LPD-21) will be based in San Diego.

Chris thanks for the info on the basing of the USS New York! That means it is PAC Fleet... Which means I can use it in the current FA Futures! :)

However dont you mean F-35B version (V/STOL version of the JSF for the USMC and RN) instead of teh F-35C version (STOBAR version of the JSF for the USN)...

When I was originally writing the post I was thinking that the VSTOL version was the F-35B. I took a quick trip over to website with information about the F-35 - either globalsecurity.org or fas.org can't remember which - and it stated that the Marine/UK version was the F-35C.

I'm pretty sure the F-35B is the Marine/UK version - as you have stated - but at the time I was trying to be accurat in the post more then going off the top of my head.

Oh well, my mistake, it's no biggie. I'm sure everyone here is knowledgeable enough about the F-35 program to deteremine which is which :)
