Ok, here's the deal with the Loose, Tight, Medium formations.

Medium fomation means that all AI planes will stay in formation until ordered otherwise. They Can fire or drop Guided ordinance on target from this formation, but not DUMB BOMBS. They must be set for "Loose" fomation so they can physically aim UNGUIDED ordinance. Use the Alt + E command to have them bomb a specific target or Alt + W to attack ground targets of the same CLASS. With these commands they will break formation and dive or approach their assigned targets. Use Alt + R if you have guided ordinace, The AI's will engage targets whie staying in formation. NOTE: Heavy Bombers such as the B-52's do not dive, but will adjust there course to line up with their assigned targets for dropping dumb bombs, in loose formation.

Loose Formation - All AI planes will break formation and attack targets independantly that have been assigned in the PMC under WP assignments. They will NOT wait for your orders.

Tight formation only reffers to the distance between the aircraft while in formation. "Tighten Up" usually sets the distance at 500 ft. "Combat Spread is about 2.000 Ft apart.

Interesting! However I have found that AI controled flights with medium settings do carpet bombing from the designated altitudes set for the flight, and the carpet bombs are dumb bomb Mk-82s...

So how can they do this if medium relates the way you say? Does the ' carpet bombing' flag override this?
