Don't know about the engines but I've never seen these aircraft in service carry anything more than two types of IR short range missiles, except the usual airshow publicity shots.

China's military is hampered by a lack of transportation ability, hence limited offensive capability. They cannot invade Taiwan because they can't get enough troops across the strait.

1. F-8M can carry the R-27.
2. China would get raped 10 miles into the Straights lol

Yeah if anything over the last decade they have gotten more open, not clamping down more. They recently studied Germany's "social democratic" system and its thought that once the "old guard" dies off the reformers are aiming for something like that down the road. Warfare doesn't occur when lots of trade is going on, $ is what it all boils down to in the end. Just look at what France did with Germany after WW2. They got tired of being overrun so they totally integrated economically with Germany so it would hurt Germany to invade. China is economically integrating with Taiwan, Japan, S. Korea, rest of Asia, EU, USA to such an extent that any war would simply be terrible for most business.

Money runs this world. China is not longer Communist but a One Party Capitalistic State.

F-8M is not in service and there are no orders for it.

Quite true Zephyr, you beat me that that punch!

However the PLAAF 'claims' that the introduction of the Zhuk radars into the F-8II will allow it to indeed carry the R-27 missiles... But can you believe anything China says about anything?

There is a new version in development of the J-8, either C or H, which may be slated for the Zhuk radars if it enters production. But IIRC the B models still have their original radars.

BT I agree somewhat, most countries and especially China kind of stretch or spin their claims, but yeah alot of websites are just pure disinformation.

Yes manation if not all will make fradualnt claims about their milatary ability at some point. But it is better to belive them then a personal website. Although some websites have information coppied strait form credible sources such as Janes.

They seem be, but then again who realy is. Janes and other organiztion like them are a good source for information. But they all work with the information available from the counties in question much of the time.

You'll see, by 2005 NK is going to be in big shit because they're going to act up again and China by 2008 will have something against Taiwan...World War whatever this is is going to get hot real soon...

The reason I say whatever this is is because of this:

Some say WWIII was the Cold War. Logical and as WWII was vastly different than WWI it could be seen as such. Now GS and many others say right now is WWIV, the fight against terrorism but I think if it goes full-on hot they'll be calling it WWIII and such is where my vote is. And the start date: 9-11-01.

Cent,

What sinodefense said was not technically incorrect. The F-8M can indeed carry the R-27 missile and has a much imnproved radar, however wht they left out was the fact that the aircraft has never been developed past demonstrator status and has no orders for production.

SO what they did was dis you with a lack of information instead of disinformation... Same result, different pattern, harder to be critical of...

I don't think there's any malicious intent here, "China Defence Daily" (www.sinodefence.com) lists the F-8IIM among the variants, and in the write up says there are unconfirmed reports of a few J-8Cs in service, J-8Cs supposedly being domestic F-8IIMs. Then for "inventory" it explicitly lists only J-8B/Ds:
