Big,

What do you think the canards are for on the B-1 and the EF2000?

You mean you don't know?

Well FYI, they can serve a number of purposes- Provide the pilot more agility, responsiveness, and they can also help slow the plane down.

I can't believe you didn't know that.......

I wasn't talkin about the B-1 there, I was talkin about the Eurofighter. Actually canards aren't all the same........they don't all do the same things

They don't!

And I never said the Eurofighter was a bad plane, I said it's ugly. Even more so than the good ol' hog IMO

BTW- Cag was the one asking about what canards do, so tell him all this KAP

So Big, since you stepped into IT again and fell into the trap.. what do you think the canards do on the B-1?

And quit trying to squirm out of the trap... I specifically asked what do you think the canards on the Typhoon AND the B-1 do? And you specificially listed that you wished the canards on the Eurofighter were small like on the B-1...

"Yeah me too, but maybe they could make the canards smaller and less visible. Like with the B-1s."

When will you ever learn Big?

Well, IIRC- the canards on the B-1 are there to prevent structural damage.

IIRC the EF-2000 has elevons instead of alerions and elevators. Could Canards have anything to do with it?

XB-70 had canards too...

Ok Big, let me educate you a bit...

The small canards on the nose of the B-1 are there to sense the turbulence of the aircraft flying at highspeed at low level. They are used as sensors by the onboard flight computers which constantly adjust the controls to dampen out the turbulence to make the low level flight as smooth as possible.

The large canards on the EF2000 are used to maneuver the aircraft in high G maneuvers by diverting huge volumes of air prior to its passage over the wing, thus pulling the aircraft through the maneuver instead of 'pushing' it as the standard layout does. This configuration has been found to be superior for fighters to achieve maxium turn efficiency without the use of thrust vectoring...

BTW I knew this about hte 'Bone' since the A model was up for a production decision by President Carter when I was in Jr High School so very VERY long ago! lol!
