Would it be possible to have 2 decks on aircraft carriers in FA-2?
I mean, a "garage" deck, with parked flyable aircrafts, with operational
elevators?
That way, one could have a bigger team of pilots flying off carriers.
Some would start from the main deck, some would start from the
garage deck, take the elevator, ect.... (using the tractors, of course)
And repair of aircraft would have to be done at the garage deck also.
That would be interesting "eye candy".

I don't think that would be possible.

If it was possible it would require at least a month, more like rewriting most fo the physics engine which supports neither multiple parking decks, nor vertically moving carriers, nor conditionally moving parts on objects (AWACS dish and props can turn all the time, but did you ever wonder why tank turrets or missile launcher tubes dont turn seperately)? of coding and some serious shape editing. That'd be too much for a rather small improvement.

Ditto Tank...

And the correct terminology is HANGAR DECK! Lets get it together people! lol!

To much work for to little return, BUT keep going with the new ideas and recommendations!

I just remembered something "odd" about one of the carrier; the Wasp.
Ono of its elevator is in the down possition, and if you "drive" an aircraft
from its deck onto that down elevator, you briefly got "airborn"
and then you fell onto it, and the sea level is still more down.
Your aircaft is then at hangar deck level.
Deck level is 250 feet above sea level.
Down elevator (hangar level) is about 150 feet above sea level.
Weird to see the other landed planes "throught" the ship!

Driving your aircraft from that down possition elevator toward the
deck result in an "instant lift" to the deck.

The harrier and other VTOL aircrafts can also be landed on many of
the tall buildings/skyscrapers.
(And NO, a B-52 CANNOT be made to land on top of a skyscraper; I know,
I tried. Many times. :P )

This is with the "default" FA, no libs installed. I am pretty sure it would
be the same with any libs.

Is that a developpment possibity for FA-2?

Just my (undervaluated) Canadian 2-cents.

If u have disabled all cheats you can land a helicopter or VTOL a/c on the lower elevator, but when u drive towards the main deck you will crash

I beg to differ, Tank.
I just rechecked, and when on the down elevator on the Wasp, if
you go toward the deck, you do indeed get an "instant lift", no crashes.
I checked and no cheats were enabled.
The only crash I could get is when you "stumble" down from the deck
onto the down elevator, if you fall in a "not too level" position, you
indeed crash. You just have to keep the plane somewhat level using the
joystick when you fall onto the down elevator.

I checked that with the Harrier, on the Kuril campaing, just for the ease
of starting on the Wasp with a Harrier. All my settings where at default,
since I just reinstalled FA (not patched yet). I even checked the cheats,
and disabled all that were enabled; made no difference about that
Wasp hangar deck/main deck singularity.

And my FA is not a copy, it is an original game, got it for $20 canadian
about 3 years ago.

I just found it VERY odd that going from the deck to the down elevator
result in falling 100 feet, but going from the down elevator to the deck
gets you an "instant lift"to 250 feet deck level. I just thought that there
might have been some possibilities for a developpment of a hangar
deck on carriers using that singularity.

That's a surprise, I just checked and inded you get immediate lift when you drive towards the deck. Moreover I dropped to the lower elevator immediately when driving towards it. This only works in single-player, though. When you try the same thing in multiplayer you crash.

Well, Tank, that means we are BOTH right! lol!
:D

On a similar note (multi-level decks) I noticed that about the
suspended bridges, you can indeed fly UNDER them, but you cannot
land/drive ON them, that results in a crash.
I wonder, could the suspended brigdes could be made to be able to
support vehicules? Just curious, as always.

On a side note, on FS-98, one of my favorite manoeuver is FLYING a
Cessna THROUGHT the carrier's rearmost hanger deck doors. Side wind
and all. Guess that takes me at the very top of the US-Navy's most
wanted a**holes list!
LOL

as I recall you can get this same up down thingy flying into that round fuel tank, you'll go up to the top then fall off the other side.

The fuel tank thing doesnt work in multiplayer, either.

I remember FS98, there was a "mission" in which you had to fly a chopper around a few corners inside the hangar deck, that was fun.

You will get this same effect for any 3D item in the game(There are 2D and 3D shapes within FA... The larger hangar is a prime example. You will have this same effect. They test for this is simply add a scenery object ontop of what you want to test. If the scenery object sits 'on top' instead of covering the original item or sinking below it, then you will have this same effect if you taxi to it. of course this is no guarantee you will not blowup if you do!

CAG out...
