Post subject:  Fighters Anthology Music List

At least as far as I know. Spent a little time figuring out which music tracks correspond to which file, decided to post it here since I can't post on VNFAWING forums for some unknown reason. Hope this will be useful to those of you who are interested in putting their own music files into FA!

If you guys have absolutely no idea what any of this does, I'll explain it... what the heck I'll explain it here. If you want to replace a sound file, I'll use the one that plays when you open FA : XFI311AB all you have to do is to create a sound file named XFI311AB.11k and you're set. Just import the wav of your choice into the FATK and rename as necessary.

Hope this wasn't a waste of time...

Which music files did you attempt to replace? And what format did you use? To tell the truth I've only tried VALK001.11k not in LIB format, any other time I edited it was always in LIB format...

Hell, we all used to be n00bs. It's great to have people still interested in FA...

Technical Stuff :

Yes, Fighters Anthology will only accept 8 bit sound files, 16 bit ones won't do the job. Generally MP3s are in 16 bit format so you'll have to convert them. I normally use Goldwave http://goldwave.com/ to do the job, it works nicely... after you download it, open up the file using Goldwave. After the file has been opened, you have to resample it to 11k format. To do that, open the effects pull down bar, and select the one called "resample". Change the Rate (Hz) to 11025. Afterwards, save your MP3 as a .wav file, and be sure to make sure you set it so it says "PCM Unsigned 8 bit, mono"

THEN you can import the new .wav file into the toolkit, then rename it accordingly...

If you meet any more problems feel free to post here, or E-mail me.

Hello, I decided to utilize this thread since my topic is pretty much the same.

I got the idea to replace FA music with clips from ATF Gold since I like those best (probably since ATF Gold was my favourite game when I was a kid and I've played it countless hours :) ). However, since I'm a total noob, I even know how to get started. At first I'd like to rip those music clips from some of those lib-files so that I could listen to them.

I have installed the ATF Gold Toolkit, and registered it with the code generator I found from this site. How do I export those sound files out? If do this: Sounds -> Misc -> XFI-something.11k and click OK, I get "ERROR: Unable to fetch the record" and the name of the file I tried to open. Is there some easy way to for example export everything out from a lib-file?

BTW, it's great to notice that there is still a strong fan community for the Fighters -series. Most people I know haven't even heard of these games.

Welcome to the forum.

Could you send me the ATF Gold Toolkit? I don't seem to have it in my files.

With the ATFG TK I may be better able to help you, but I have some ideas already.

Ok, I uploaded the toolkit there: http://koti.mbnet.fi/atfgtk/atfgldtk.zip

EDIT: I tried FA toolkit also for editing my FA and it has exactly the same problem. It just throws those errors no matter what you try to open. Some kind of WinXP compatibility problem maybe?

EDIT2: Ansvering to myself: no. I tried it in my retro PC with Win98SE, and it has exactly the same problem. Probably I just can't use the software.

I am planning to use the Tyrian soundtrack in FA as soon as I get Total Recorer Pro.

In the mean time, I would like to use some 50s music for the DOTJA soundtrack, but all the 50s stuff doesn't seem quite harsh enough for combat. Any ideas how I can break this little impass?

VERY good point, Kap. In my opinion, the right kind of music adds to the experience of a sim, especially on those 200-mile fights where you have a long period of boredom, followed by ten minutes of sheer terror (LOL just like the real thing!). I use to let 'Wake Up Hate' by Korn play when I ran the dogfight scenario in Mig Alley. Now that was quite an experience!

The primary use of music in FA is as a distraction to add to the SA confusion. If you turn off the music your task saturation threshold goes way up.
