I need opinions on the J-8 Finback for the PLAAF...

Basically which aircraft to base it on...

The Finback seems to be a hemogony of the MiG-19 and MiG-21...

Namely it has the MiG 21 type wings and the MiG-19 type inlet for the Finback J-8I and a supersonic version of the nose and intake layout of the A-5/Q-5 for the Finback J-8II...

So do you guys think it would be the best idea to make the F-8 our of the Q-5 shape in FA?

This shape is unstable in the color editor so work will be slower on this then another shape in FA that is color editable (as eiting it will require massive game starts to check the shaep instead of quickly testing the shape changes in the color editor)...

So is the Q-5 the best shape or is there a better shape in FA that I could use as a basis for the modifications?

Ideas anyone?

CAG out...

Yeah a Q/A-5 with a delta wing is really the only thing that comes close, especially those MiG-19 exhaust nacelles.

What about the Jaguar or Mitsubishi F-1 shapes. They have much more detailed textures, and are the general plan form of the F-8. The difference being their wings are high rather than low. The tail structure is different as well.

Both of those shapes (Jag, F1) will make a great JH-7, but using them for the finback would most likely be difficut at best. Especially if I try to make a J-8 I from it with the flat nose intake. Also the landing gear layout will be all wrong for those 2 shapes.

One problem for the Q-5 will also be the landing gear. The length of distance between the nose and main gear will be very short, due to the small size of the Q-5, so it may not work out either unless I am lucky enough to locate it inside the shape file, as most landing gear locations are still a mystery to me in the shapes...

What about using the F4 Phantom shape? Correct inlets, but incorrect tail layout, but the gear locations would be pretty good...

Too bad there are no Su-15 models to use :(

Q-5 would have the same configuration, but the Fishbed has a more similar silhouette

And on a slightly different point, how about using the Yak 141 shape for the basis of the JSF build?

CAG

The F4 kinda looks like the F8. Zephyr in his libs uses the Yak141 shape for his JSF. Check it out.

Regards,
Pappy

The Yak would be the perfect shape for the JSF except 1 small problem...

It has no afterburner shape, so when you hit afterburner, you get the speed effect but you dont get the graphic...

Ummmmm...

I am CAG and no I didnt develop a workable F-35 shape...

The shape I did build is to unstable for game use...

So back to the drawing board...

Will probably use the Yak shape to build from this time...

Has the MiG-21s wings and gear, but not the engines. Unfortuantely I cant build this frokm the MiG-21 due to the single engine and not enough polygons to create the correct engines design.

I will likely be building the Finback A & B from the Q-5, but its going to be a nightmare...
