Hello,

Yesterday, I decided to break out my Jane's simulators and play them again. Fleet Command was the first to be installed but the missions keep crashing, so I tried Fighters Anthology - 1 minute installation! I remember it took what felt like half an hour when I first bought it back in 1997!

Anyway, I have some questions which have always bugged me about FA:

1 - Load Ordanance screen - Airbase - Next Aircraft/Previous Aircraft

Why can I never use this? This option is never available, regardless of the mission type.

2 - Guided weapons and pods

Does anyone know which pods go with which weapons? There is the FLIR, Pave Knife and Pave Spike pods and the various IR, optical and laser guided weapons. I don't know which pod is used for which seeker heads or which combination brings up the IR/Laser window. Or even the Radar/Visual with the active radar missiles. I had the Radar/Visual window come up with the Harpoon missile when I was flying the Apache and IR active (I think).

3 - wingman commands

I remember I could give my wingman commands at any time, now it doesn't happen. Any ideas why?

4 - why didn't the developers originally allow helicopters to be flown in FA rather than included LHX on the disc?

Its so much fun! I thought flying the Tunguska was crazy back in the day. But I never understood why LHX was hidden on the disc :S game is so old!

Also, I'm running FA on WinXP SP2 and with the 1.02F patch. It runs fine and smoothly in 800x600, still has the problem of crashing every now and again which happened on the very first computer I played on. The game still looks great despite its age, too bad the HUDs don't show in 1024x768.

(there appears to be a problem with the forum, which is why there are two posts, comes up with a 500 error when I submitted all of what I wrote.)

hello grail and welcome to zephyr net. First of all make sure you take a look at FA's official manual, it is very interesting and will help you master the game in no time. This and other files such as maps, mods, missions and tools for FA can be downloaded at the resource center:

ill leave that up to CAG or Zephyr to answer...i have never been able to use this feature i think it involves some file mission text editing.

as for the guided weapons, FLIR is an Infrared Seeker...it's good if your aircraft has no or very porr ground radar system. if i remember correctlly FLIR's filed of view is about 60' which exceeds most ground radars. so its good for short range mid to high altitude bombing. It is not however a designator...in other words you don't need this to use an IR weapon. visual id can suffice in designating an IR target (take your mouse and click on a target or press enter). As for paveknife and pavespike they are laser designators which are required for laser guided weapons IF your aircraft is not equipped with a laser designator.

The CTRL key can be used in junction with other keys to give your wingman commands. (ie. CNTR + E will ask your wingman to engage the enemy). to see the full list please look at the FA manual because there are a lot of them.

i think it's due to their slow speeds and lack of HUD and the fact that helicopters operate totally different in terms of physics than aircraft. This can be simply changed by using the FA Toolkit and unchecking helicopters in the aircraft's general settings.

Also i strongly suggest you download a mod. Vanilla fighters anthology is extremely unrealistic and dull. Try downloading some maps with better textures. CAG is currently working on a super mod for FA which should be released by end of this year. This will totally change FA in terms of graphics and realism.

That is airbase assault and is only usable when you are flying against someone else online in multiplayer and choose to fly airbase assault. You pick which airbase you want to fly from and what aircraft you want to fly and then you arm them seperately, which is why you can go to next and previous airbase and aircraft. However, you can not fly it in standalone mode at home...

Thanks for the replies. I thought the Airbase option may have been a bug. I never played FA on multiplayer either.

I know what the pods do but I didn't know which weapons were compatiable with which pod so it was hit and miss when loading. I was mucking around with them earlier and discovered that the right click actually serves a purposes and the Advanced Targeting/IR option does work. Took a while to figure out.

I have the quick manual with the keyboard diagram. Just I don't remember pressing Alt-E so many times before the command comes up and the wingman engages. I'll try the Ctrl key next. Maybe its my keyboard thats the problem.

Where can I get the FATK?

Can you elaborate what you meant by...

Do you mean on the loadout screen for laoding and unloading weapons? Or do you mean inflight in the sim?

I never knew what purpose the rectangle box served but I realise its part of the Advanced Targeting.

Thanks for the FATK, don't know why I didn't find it the first time round!

I never have used IR/Laser advanced targetting due to the unrealeastic bracketting of all targets outside the HUD, which of course in real life would not happen, even with a helmet HUD...

Adding visibile pre-launched weapons is a part of FAF I have been working on for a long time...

When you are a newbie it isnt always the smartest thing to wade in and try to make jokes without knowing details of the situations...
