Its not just eye candy... Flight Models have been tweaked to match real world performance as much as possible on turning circles, drag, range, acceleration, and G limits... Fuel burn is realistic... Landing is now a challenge as is aircraft maneuverability with drag and fuel burn impacted by ordnance load outs. Radars have real limits as well... You can now truly jam a radar until burn through range is achieved and when SAMs fire you must maneuver hard to defeat them... Simply chaff and ECM wont do it anymore, especially from the SA-6 onward... SAM and AAA sites fire at you as a site instead of as individual vehicles and followup shots are quicker if you beat the first missile... plus if you knockdown the radar you reduce effectiveness for boththe AAA sites and the SAM sites... SAMs and AAA in the real world have backup optical tracking and (for SAMs) guidance but its of limited range and reduces the effectiveness of the missiles and that is reflected in teh game as well...
A true ground and naval war goes on around you with land occupied and fleets of ships sunk, and the damage shapes reflect real ship and airbase destruction instead of just a burned look to the ship and a notice on runways... If an airbase is overrun and occupied it wont be available in the next mission... same with destroyed or damages airbases...
The list is even longer which is why this is taking so very very long... Working solo or with my buddy Duke has been tougher than the good old days when we have 20 plus working on it...
