The Progress and Development whatever website is now up, with a new and hopefully cooler looking site design... still fixing a few minor problems, nothing big to worry about... I've already posted the recent progress... lack of screenshots and stuff, I'll get them up soon, just wanted to keep you guys informed...

Is this Taiwan map realistically set up with airfields and such?
And does it use strictly default objects or LIB objects too?

Yes it is realistically set up, perhaps the most realistic Taiwan map I have seen so far... at least all of the ROCAF airfields are in their correct positions, plus several highway runways scattered about the island... additionally, there was the Kin-Men island that never appeared in the stock FA map so I had to add it myself... You have to have AI: Taiwan loaded otherwise the map will look VERY strange, because I put the tiles in place one by one, and they have to be compatible with the custom tiles... not to mention that stock FA didn't have taxiways, or ILS...

The only thing that is NOT custom is... well, I can't really think of anything that is NOT custom, except for maybe the overall shape...

Seriously, almost everything has been redone... the original map was just pure crap.

I like the way you pieced the cockpit together in the screenshots section. That is an AV-8, F-18, and F-16 cockpit graphics compiled to form a new pit. You did a nice job!

On the sound files, did you create them youself? It says 3/4s are in chinese so I am assuming you did, must of been alot of work!

I can't find a single decent pic of the F-CK-1's cockpit, so I have to use cut and paste to make it look like something else...^_^

Yes, I had to record each and every single radio message, and then process it a bit so it sounded like a radio message... very tiring, but it really gets you more immersed in the campaign...

It will be kind of hard to release the map separately because of all the new objects that appear in it that weren't in stock FA... not to mention I edited all of the airfields to match my needs, so for instance there is no "Desert Airfield" to choose from anymore, but if you turned that back to stock FA then it would screw up... so sadly to say, you can only fly over this custom map if you're flying AI...

I understand completely, as I had to do the same thing with FA Futures.

You know I was going to build a Taiwanese theater for Futures Campaign Manager, but if if yours is really good could i incorporate it instead of making one of my own? I would have to test out the FMs for the aircrat and the weapons performance. But it sure would make it easier for the Campaign Manager...

That sounds great! I don't know how accurate I did mine but I think you would definitely want a look at it when I'm finished... I've always been VERY interested in your Campaign manager...

About FMs for aircraft and weapons, I'll first say one thing about them... big speed increase, for almost all aircraft you have to wait until you're about at 180~200 knots to take off, compared to 130~150 in stock FA... also, in dogfighting it is much easier to maintain 400~500 knots... simply put, the pace of fighting and flying has been increased drastically compared to stock FA... considering FA used kph (I'm pretty sure of that, that should explain the abnormally slow feeling of flight)

Or perhaps I misunderstood your meaning? (BTW, I finished drawing the new logo and such, it's on my page... somewhat taking your advice about project name and such...)

Very interesting Speedy...

The KPH assumption. I have no real idea if it is true or not... Iron Eagle had claimed the FMs are done in FPS = Feet Per Second...

However the maps are done in miles and feet... so if you time the number of miles it is across, say, the korean penisula, it works out to be the correct speed to cover the distance in the allotted time as if the speed were in

Either way I want to test your work... Sounds like it is much improved and I really do like the

You know it kind of fits to have a pit from so many different sources, sine the real aircraft i smore or less a combination from the manufacturers of those aircraft and it all shows in their design philosphies...

Asking for some opinions here... should I make the US Navy involved in the Taiwan theater? If I do, I'll have to record a whole new set of radio messages, not to mention make the navy... (The fighters and such are no problem)

Originally I was planning to have the USA tied up in Korea during this theater's timeline... but then I noticed since only the Navy would be involved... the most annoying part is the radio messages, I just can't stand the old ones and I'd HAVE to make new ones...

BTW CAG, how did you make scenery aircraft manage to keep their shadows? Did you use the M1939 AAA as a base or something?

If this is a realistic campaign the entire US Military would be involved. Probably the Japs too and maybe the Brits....

Thanks for your opinion!

On another hand, here's what I was thinking though... I'm not so sure about that Cent... though obviously war has never happened before (Unless the shelling of Kin-Men Island and the Sabre vs Mig wars over the Taiwan Strait counted) I don't think the Brits, even the Japs could be involved... the USAF maybe would send over a couple of E-3s maybe, but since I was planning on having part of the USAF and USN tied up in Korea (Makes it a lot simpler to make a campaign) I'll still think about it.

Fact of it is that Taiwan doesn't have enough airfields to supply the USAF (In my opinion) , and also, having to depend on outside help kind of isn't what I was planning on when I was thinking of the campaign storyline, though in truth we ARE dependent on outside help... flying USAF F-15s and A-10s when you're defending Taiwan just doesn't seem to cut it... the airfields don't have enough runways, and China would probably launch a blitzkrieg attack in the case of full war, knocking out power generators, definitely trying to knock out the nuclear power generators...

Some other interesting things you might not be aware of... In truth China can launch fighters and have them within striking range of Taiwan in about 4~8 minutes... (Note, in FA it takes them about 7 minutes) so Taiwan always has to have fighters in the air ready.

Mirage 2000-5Eis are only based in Hsinchu, and while the rest of the Air Force doesn't have enough TC-2s and AIM-120Cs, they have 960 Mica missiles...-_-;

There is a VERY tight net of MIM-104 PAC-2 Patriot cover over Taipei (Otherwise known as the capital of Taiwan) so that's why there aren't many fighter squadrons up north. (I didn't know that until recently, I asked my history teacher...)

Additionally, Taiwan's army tanks... can't get to the coast in time to stop a real D-day should China launch them quickly, not to mention the fact that most Taiwan roads can't take the weight of the tanks...

But at least Taiwan's F-16 pilots were trained at Luke AFB, USA, and from what I've read performed excellently... If the ROCAF fails, then simply put, Taiwan will fall...

Whew! Long post, I can post more later on the Aerial Inferno homepage if you guys are interested... BTW, who knows whether or not the J-10 is actually in service yet?
